Hi all!
Next semester I will be teaching and energy modeling course and I would like to have the student learn & play with the EnergyScope model. Can I please ask everyone to share their experiences in using EnergyScope in teaching and if there is any material you could share? It would be nice to create an open repository for this material!
Good morning,
I use EnergyScope via a simplified GUI, enabling the participants to use it without installing AMPL or digging into the code itself.
The GUI is deployed on the school’s servers and needs an AMPL teaching license.
The tool itself can be modified according to the specific orientation of the respective classes.
The different project descriptions, as the repository can be found in the GDrive Folder
You find within the zip the respective repository. It has been developed to easily use different versions of EnergyScope, and to alter the needs and accesses for the students.
When using the code, please acknowledge the authorship.
Thank you

I think that it would make sense to have a place with the interfaces for the use of energyscope in courses. In EPFL we have the energy conversion, the course of Jonas in SIE and the MAS-CAS courses. The models are used with different levels of detail perhaps different types of technologies and even interfaces. A special directory in energyscope git with the scripts corresponding to the different usage would be realy useful for all of us and the other who intend to use energyscope in teaching.
There are different ways of using energyscope:
- learning mathematical programming models
- modeling energy systems in general
- using energy systems models to answer specific questions: like impact of industry decarbonisation, impact of a new technology, etc… targeting monitoring for energy policy, …
We could probably start with an inventory of the different ways energyscope is or can be used for teaching activities.
